Tony Spinosa joined the National Defense University’s Team on 22 January 2007 where he served as the Director of the National Defense University (NDU) Human Performance Directorate (HPD) serving the NDU Community for the development of policy, plans, and programs relative to a comprehensive health and human performance program within the Physical, Emotional, Mental, Spiritual, and Social Domains. He served as the Principal Advisor to the NDU President on all matters related to health, public health, behavior health, wellness, fitness, and human performance of the NDU Community.

As the Director he led and directed the HFD multi-discipline staff of 10 personnel comprised of six military personnel including a Medical Doctor, Nurse, Physical Therapist, and three US Army Psychologists and four title five civilians: Registered Dietitian. Certified Athletic Trainer, Exercise Physiologist, and Medical Liaison.  The Directorate developed and taught a highly successful elective on Human Performance. The course is designed to give senior leaders the knowledge and skills to bring mind, body and spirit to peak conditions in a world that is constantly changing, enabling them to perform consistently at high levels. 

Tony is a career Army Officer, spending 20 years on active duty, holding various leadership positions world-wide, culminating as an Action Officer in the Deputy Chief of Staff – Operations, Army Operation Center.

Upon retirement from the Army in 1999, Tony received his Master of Science degree in Exercise Science from George Mason University. He went on to join the staff of the Washington Redskins organization for seven seasons, developing and overseeing the strength and conditioning programs as a Strength and Conditioning Coach.
